Hi All,

I have just completed a 1940 John Deere tractor of which I am attaching two photographs. I really enjoyed making this tractor. Making the rear tyres was however a challenge. The 4th set that I made, was more or less to my liking. I did not have decent hard wood of the size required for these wheels and ended up using medium density board or what we in the RSA call Superwood.

Regards

Dolf

This is a fine piece of workmanship. About the best toy tractor I have ever seen. Just beautiful. You are the master! I bow to you. What is the overall size?

John/Tony,

Thanks for your kind comments.

John, the dimensions are approximately the following (sorry the drawings are still in my workshop):

- Length                                 - 290 mm
- Height                                 - 160 mm
- Width over rear wheels          - 170 mm
- Rear wheel diameter             - 126 mm
- Front wheel diameter             -  57 mm

The steering wheel was also my first try at making it looking more  like the real thing. Lloyd will get it right the first time. I got it right the 3 rd time. Same goes for the seat arm rests. They break easy and are a weak point in the design. I might have to redo them and make them stronger.

Regards

Dolf
