Hi,

I'm not sure how to go about painting my boat. Can I use Krylon paints and are they waterproof? Should I apply a waterproof base coat (I have Varathane's Spar urethane outdoor) under the paint to keep the wood from soaking water? What is a good waterproof paint I can use?
Also, which order should I apply the two? Paint first, then Varathane outdoor  or vice versa?

Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure paint will stick to spar varnish. You should ask the company that make the finishes. Spar Varnish is kind of soft. It's designed to expand and contract with the wood and hold up well in the sun light. If you put paint on it you are going to need to figure out what kind of paint will stick to it and what you need to do to prep the surface. I'm guessing acrylic craft paint will come right off.

You might want to check out what the RC boats modlers use. They used to make them from wood.

It's pricey but West Systems epoxy would seal it up and I know you can paint it.

When I painted my Speedster I just used water based acrylic and sprayed a few coats of clear gloss enamel

Thanks guys. I took PeterB advice and did that. Works great!! Top photo floating in the bathtub water.
My grandson loved it. Mom and Dad got extra bath time out of them!! The colors I picked were red, blue, orange. My grandsons favorite colors.IMG_8479.JPG  IMG_8481.JPG
