Here's a birdhouse I built. It's Brazilian white pine with a mahogany roof. It was a fun project I am giving to my grandson.

Yes it does open, the back slides off

a tweet project  and well done except t for the placement of the opening  my wife is a major bird lover and over the years I have had to build her several bird houses and feeders my research tells me that your porch roof is a perch for predators I would move the opening to the side ( i realize that it takes away some of the enjoyment when viewing but it would be better for the birds)
