This simple floor puzzle is approximately 600mm long (two feet) and is made from some 12mm, 5 ply, plywood I had lying around. It is backed with 3mm MDF. The 'grab handles' are 6mm dowel.

To make this puzzle I first draw around the template of the Australian map. This template also has the cut outs for the native critters shown. Once that's done I cut out out the critters using a scroll saw then rough cut the map out, glue to the mdf then final cut to shape on the scroll saw.

The animals (kangaroo, koala, emu, wombat and goanna) are stained with a wood stain and the whole thing is finished with a couple of coats of gloss estapol with a light sanding between coats. I don't have to sand the edges because the scroll saw blades are so fine it isn't necessary.

Thank Man for Posting This.
Way cool.  Now I want to do one for CA.  With the whales, pourpeses (spelling), etc.  Looks like fun.
Again Thanks

The fun part with any of my really big puzzles is working out the cut order to get them around the scroll saw table.
My EX21 is a pleasure to use and even if I went to a larger size, I would still have fun arranging the cuts [thumb]
