Well, as you can see this is the Famous War Birds P-38 Lightning. I really enjoyed building this project and it didn’t take very long. The Image Art went on very well. The only problem (and it was not a big one) was the slots in the tail section should be expanded to take in account for the paper thickness for the Image Art. It didn’t take much, problem solved.

You notice that I took the USAF off of the vertical stabilizers because the P-38 was a plane during the World War II the air force at that time was called the United States Army Air Corps. The P-38 was in commission from 1941 until 1945. The USAF did not come into being until 1947.

This is a beautiful job and it looks like the real thing! Nice save on the USAF insignia. That was news to me. I was born in 1944 so was rusty on my history of WW2.

Sepember 18 1947 to be exact. 

USAF Retired. It was a promotion TQ and a freebie. September 18 is also my birthday. On occasion I've received birthday cards from the USAF.[smile]
