I’m building two 1890’s rocking horses for my  two grand daughters. Is anyone familiar with Faber Castell Tempera paints.   I bought a few colors of this paint. I thought it would be glossy (my preference) but it is very flat. I’ve read great advice on this site on how to apply high gloss finish over the paint.

These paints are water based. Does that mean that they are “acrylics?” Are they good paints for this type of project? I’m obviously a newbie who would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

You can apply a clear gloss acrylic final coat on most tempura paint when it’s dry to help fix the paint and make the surface waterproof. Experiment on a scrap piece of wood. I think you will like the results.

That's great. I got a little overly enthusiastic and bought half a dozen bottles of Tempera paints based on a hobby store clerks recommendation.
