Don,
The only timber I work with is pine, straight off the hardware store shelf.
For me pine doesn't have the character of the more expensive timbers, so that is why i paint rather than not paint.

As i have alot of 3/4 scrap, i use it for the parts that are 1/8, 3/8, 1/2 as some times 2 are needed and trimming down from wider piece is alittle safer.

Peter Buysen's photo.

I haven't cut the shape out as yet but i would cut shape of part then thin part to the desired thickness.
So i cut down the amount of cutting of each part and have some thing to hold when needing thin part and done safely.

Hi -Looking good.
Can't quite make it out what paper/label you are using for the labels.  It looks almost clear background to me but it maybe lighting.  The limited modgepodge I've done has been on white printer paper.

Ken, John's plans provide a great stepping stone tool for the imagination to take over and make toy making fun as it is already fun, but in my head probably the next level. [crazy]
